Song of the Day: Yoü and I - Lady Gaga

Yep, it's that time again! “The Edge of Glory” is starting to fade fast in both radio and sales, and Gaga needs to stay at the top. “Yoü and I” should do exactly that when it is released as a single on August 23rd. However, since it's coming from Mother Monster herself, we can expect nothing less. It's almost gotten to the point where we expect all of Lady Gaga's songs to be great masterpieces. Does “Yoü and I” continue that magnificent trend? Read on to find out!

Like I said before in my Freaky Friday post, "Yoü and I" takes on a country feel, despite the use of Queen's "We Will Rock You". However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing - the song also contains elements of classic rock, such as the electric guitar and heavy drums. The two different genres actually balance well in "Yoü and I", giving the song a retro feel that is somehow completely different than "The Edge of Glory" had.

However, this song does have a huge drawback: It completely takes away from everything we thought Lady Gaga was before. "Yoü and I" actually makes Lady Gaga seem like a normal, average person, rather than the demi-god who always had a "Poker Face" and told you that you were "Born This Way". It's a great song, but it takes away the magic that Lady Gaga had before. She's still a music superstar, of course, but she doesn't seem like a Mother Monster anymore.

With that being said, "Yoü and I" is a great song. Lady Gaga is able to take a genre I hate (country) and make it enjoyable for me, and that can't be said for many artists.
