Songs of the Month: July 2011

This month was the official month of party rocking. Sure, there were other songs that piqued America's interest (such as Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" and Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"), but none compare to the impact that LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" had. However, there were many new songs that I reviewed recently that could be the next "Party Rock Anthem". What are they? Read on to find out!

3. Pretty Girls - Iyaz (Feat. Travie McCoy)

"Pretty Girls" has caught on via radio, rather than via digital sales. I honestly couldn't care less, as this was one of my personal faves so far this summer. While "Pretty Girls" lacks any real story development or depth, the mood and vibe of the song are so soft and positive that it doesn't matter. Iyaz showed that he can sing a great pop song in "Replay", and more of the same in "Pretty Girls" definitely doesn't hurt!

2. Lighters - Bad Meets Evil (Feat. Bruno Mars)

In this day and age, it seems like the only rapper to consistently pull out mainstream hits is Eminem. Even as a member of Bad Meets Evil, he doesn't disappoint in "Lighters". This song was very well-written (in many respects, even better than "Love the Way You Lie"), and it shows in the extremely long rap solos by Eminem and Royce da 5'9". The song is capped off with a slow, powerful chorus from Bruno Mars, who is able to relate to Eminem's previous drug problems quite well.

1. You Make Me Feel... - Cobra Starship (Feat. Sabi)

I've been cheering this song on for the last few weeks, as it's been making its way up both the radio and digital charts significantly. The initial reception of "You Make Me Feel..." is very similar to the initial reception of "Party Rock Anthem" a few months ago, and for good reason. Of all of this month's hits, "You Make Me Feel..." is the strongest song, and is the most likely to become extremely popular. I personally gave this song a 4.5/5 rating, so you know I'll be rooting for them!
