After the 2008 Gym Class Heroes album "The Quilt" bombed, Travie McCoy went on a semi-successful solo run let by hit song "Billionaire", which featured Bruno Mars. However, that has since come to an end, and Travie and two-hit wonder Gym Class Heroes are working on their next album, "The Papercut Chronicles II". Their first single since reuniting? "Stereo Hearts", featuring The Voice judge Adam Levine, which was released earlier this week. Will this song propel Travie and GCH back into the music mainstream?
Becoming more and more commonplace in hit music, the song opens with a short snippet of the chorus. Adam Levine's sweet voice guides this piece sweetly through the song, making this one of the top 10 catchiest hooks so far this year. Having said that, the verses of the song fail to capitalize on this. The annoying, grumbling beat during the verses doesn't meld with the soft, smooth beat in the chorus and bridge, although Travie's voice fits well with the rest of the song.
My final verdict, however, would definitely be to purchase this great piece of music. The verses don't fit with the song, but this has historically been Travie McCoy's style, and it has a sound unlike anything out today.
I leave you with one question: Does this have a chance to be performed on The Voice? If so, this song is on a definite path to success!
