Hey! Don't write this song off yet! My local radio station, although incredibly crappy, played this song nonstop, along with Avril Lavigne's "Complicated" and Sheryl Crow's "Soak Up the Sun". I'm serious, it's like they'd never heard R&B in their life! Anyways, their incessant playing of the song made me fall in love with it while going to and from school. Everything in this song makes the rebel in you cry out - which I've always loved, such as in the Kaiser Chiefs' "Never Miss a Beat"!
The music video for "The Middle" is particularly - um... interesting. Everyone in the video is wearing only their undergarments, except for the main character and the band. The video takes place at a party, where everyone is acting crazy. However, the main character follows the advice of the song ("just be yourself") and doesn't conform until the end of the song, where he sees a girl doing the same thing. The two walk away from the party, hand in hand, wearing clothes.
If you want to let the crazy in you loose, watch the video! It's a little loco, but it's memorable and trademark in every way - and also doubles as a Calvin Klein commercial.
