Song of the Day: Paradise - Coldplay

Have you been waiting for this release? If so, you're not alone. I've always found Coldplay's innovative, almost U2-esque style to be very charming, and many of their songs to be "Paradise". However, the English band has finally released a song of that name, and looks to live up to what Coldplay's previously done. Read the rest of my review to hear the song if you haven't yet!

When "Paradise" first opens, it is met with a very harmonic string-led performance. It sounds very smooth and melodic, and is the perfect opening for what we realize later is a great chorus.

However, my only critique comes from the earlier part of the song. When Coldplay sings their first verse, there seems to be little behind it, and the tones come off as slightly depressing. Compared to the rest of this song, much of this seems to be completely disconnected. Also, I'm not going to remember this part of the song 10 years from now.

What I will remember, however, is "Para, para... paradise!". The chorus is emphatically powerful, without trying to be. This is, by far, one of the best choruses on any major release this year. It's also a landmark moment for Coldplay, who are looking for huge sales before they release Mylo Xyloto in late October.

I would definitely recommend you buy this song, if you've ever been interested in any type of electronic, alternative or pop music around. Although the first verse of the song may be a bit dreary, the rest of the song makes up for it in bounds!

  1. I like this song a lot. But a friend of mine who also really likes Coldplay doesn't like it. He think its too "hip-hoppy." While I agree it is going for that (reminds me of Timbaland/OneRepublic's collaboration), I actually don't mind that at all.
