After the huge and unexpected success of "Party Rock Anthem", LMFAO looks to hit the jackpot again with their next single, "Sexy And I Know It". Although this song may not feature such high-profile acts as Lauren Bennett and GoonRock, it's definitely in a position to become a hit. However, is it likely that this song will also hit #1? Read on for my opinion!
Part of what made "Party Rock Anthem" so great for the American audience (and the world audience, for that matter) was that it was able to mold pop with hip-hop and dance music. This singly takes a surprising turn from the one thing that would be likely to make it a hit (a poppy sound) and is turned into a more 90s-esque song with a modern twist in the beat.
With that being said, the beat is the best part of this song. At the same time, however, it also seems to wear the song down, which starts to show its life pretty quickly. Although repetition was able to work well in "Party Rock Anthem" ("Get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up!"), it doesn't do the job on "Sexy".
Also, there seems to be little longevity in the rapping style of LMFAO's Redfoo and SkyBlu. If it weren't for the beat and the lack of an - ahem, an "anthemic" chorus - , this song could easily be seen as a continuation of its predecessor.
In the end, I really wanted this song to get me sold on LMFAO. However, it did quite the opposite. This is a very poor outing from a group that's facing the most integral point of its career.
