Just like you've never heard of the Freshmen, you've probably never heard of Mona Lisa. These girls' career didn't kick off in the late '90s (when Urban/R&B music was popular), but they take influence from both that time period and today's dance music scene. Influences from both of these musical directions are evident in "DJay", and combine to make a song that deserves to be more popular than it ever will be.
The highlight in "DJay" is the hot track. No one can deny that the chorus is injected with a plethora of strong beats that combine to make near-perfection. If nothing else, this song provides the best instrumental track of the summer, and has a legitimate chance to become popular in the club scene.
However, when you have a strong beat, you must have a strong voice to go with it. Mona Lisa makes a great attempt to use two on the song, but their voices has always been suited for softer music, and it shows here. Had this song been sung by Beyoncé or Britney Spears, it would be extremely popular - sadly enough, though, it's left to become a lost remnant of what could have been one of this year's biggest hits.
