The Project: Mobius Fab 50 - Week of October 31, 2011

Christina Perri's new single for Twilight, "A Thousand Years", was released late last month. Although it's not as great of a song as "Arms" or "Jar of Hearts", it definitely is going to get some recognition - especially on my chart this week, being the highest song. UK electronic group Nero have released "Promises" for free in the United States this week, hoping to get their voice recognized here as much as it is in Europe. The Project: Mobius Fab 50 - Week of October 24, 2011

It may have been awhile, but I'm back! Also late for arrival are Breathe Carolina with "Blackout", a song that not only is on the top 200 for iTunes despite being free earlier, but also broke into the top 40 on Mediabase this week, as well as entering the top 25 of Billboard's "Heatseekers" chart. How high does this propel the almost eliminated song on the Fab 50? Also, is Rihanna able to stay at the top with "We Found Love"? Read on to find out!

Song of the Day: The One That Got Away - Katy Perry

Although her streak of 69 straight weeks in the top 10 on Billboard may have ended, Katy Perry's still trying to extend her streak of #1 singles from Teenage Dream to 6. The single attempting to do such is "The One That Got Away", the first ballad that Katy Perry's attempted to release since "Thinking of You" - although this song has a much more noticeable pop tangent, as Katy's figured out that the general public only likes her when singing pop songs. Still, though, is this song strong enough to get Katy Perry back to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100? Read on to find out!

The Project: Mobius Fab 50 - Week of October 10, 2011

Fueled By Ramen is getting a huge taste of success this week on the Fab 50, after two of their songs enter the top 4. I took a big risk on both of these songs (on "Stereo Hearts" by putting in on my chart in mid-June, on "You Make Me Feel..." by giving it a 4.5/5), but both of my risks paid off, and the songs are both successful and still climbing on the charts! However, were either of these songs able to make the jump to #1? Read on to find out! Hint: There's a new #1 this week!

Song of the Day: Criminal - Britney Spears

I must admit that "Criminal" wouldn't have been my next choice for Britney when picking out her next single. However, the reworked radio version's chorus sounds much better than the original, and is primed for listeners. Is it enough for Britney to get to #1 again, after fellow competitors Lady Gaga and Rihanna have fallen short with their most recent singles? Song of the Day: Crawling Back To You - Daughtry

Although Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have been arguably the greatest successes from American Idol, Chris Daughtry has definitely been the most successful male from the show - and he didn't even win! With his new album Break the Spell coming out on November 21st, Daughtry's band (simply named Daughtry) releases their first single from the new album. Does it continue Daughtry's previous successes with singles? Read on for my take!

Song of the Day: Hangover - Taio Cruz (Feat. Flo Rida)

It seems as though Taio Cruz is great at making great songs, but isn't so great at making them popular in America. Sliding in today on the iTunes sales chart outside of the top 20 is Taio's "Hangover", made with Flo Rida, the guy that makes music with great beats ("Turn Around", "Good Feeling"), yet isn't a singer himself. Song of the Day: When We Stand Together - Nickelback

Nickelback's back! (A little cliché? I try!) Anyways, the last rock band standing has made a last-ditch to stay relevant with their album Here and Now, which premieres in late November. After their last top 10 single was released in 2008, Nickelback has tried and failed 4 times to replicate the effort which it has done 6 times before in its career. Can "When We Stand Together" be a 7th career top 10 single for Nickelback? Read on for the answer!

Song of the Day: Strange Clouds - B.o.B. (Feat. Lil' Wayne)

After B.o.B.'s incredible mainstream success through the earlier part of 2010 (with 3 top 10 hits, including #1 "Nothin' On You"), B.o.B. has gone over a year without a successful release of his own single. As a debut for the same-titled album to be released in 2012, Strange Clouds is a hip-hop collab with Lil' Wayne, who could easily be called the busiest man of 2011 from his many releases and soundpieces. However, is the all-star collab, B.o.B.'s own credibility enough to make this song an autumn smash? Read on for my review!

You know, a solid single from Rihanna has been highly anticipated by me, despite the fact that she releases music as fast as a jackrabbit. Her last 3 singles have all been flops, so I was pretty excited to hear her new song, "We Found Love", from her upcoming album. However, was the new song's recent success enough for me to put it on the top of the Fab 50? You'll have to read the rest of the post to find out!

Song of the Day: I Like It Like That - Hot Chelle Rae (Feat. New Boyz)

It's been quite a while, but Hot Chelle Rae fans are finally getting a new song, after "Tonight Tonight" mysteriously vanishes from the Mediabase charts. "I Like It Like That" will premiere on iTunes on October 4th, and features the Cataracs' act New Boyz. Does this song have the same charm that made "Tonight Tonight" such a big hit? Song of the Day: We Found Love - Rihanna (Feat. Calvin Harris)

Are you kidding me? Rihanna's first single from her upcoming album (which I believe will have a cover much like the "R" logo you see above) is with Calvin Harris? As dance music finally makes its well-deserved progression into the mainstream, artists like Rihanna are using its trademark beats and repetition to help their own music. However, is it too far of a misdirection for an artist whose sound has become as different as R&B/pop Rihanna? Read on for my review!

Gavin DeGraw has had an interesting career. Although his songs never get high on the Hot 100, he's not regarded as anything but a major artist. With a fresh new song in "Not Over You", will he be able to get high on the chart? Probably not, but it's one of my favorite songs from him, so it charts well.
